DIY Divorce

WAIT, WHAT?

An Attorney Who Teaches People How To Represent Themselves, DIY???

"My passion is helping people SAVE MONEY on lawyers while still being able to GET DIVORCED with step-by-step guidance."

~Jessie Crane, Esq.

The #1 REASON People Call a lawyer is because they wake up one day and find themselves in a legal battle beyond their control.  They call a lawyer because they don't know where else to go.

But in my experience, MOST PEOPLE are Reasonable and know what's fair in the end.

However, you might be surprised to learn MOST PEOPLE File for Divorce Without an Attorney, and my research of past court records proved it!  So then... you’re here looking for answers, but who is helping you???

AS A DIVORCE ATTORNEY...

I have been in the trenches of divorce battles involving pretty heavy custody disputes. I have seen cases so toxic that even the attorney left broken spirited.

I have witnessed litigation that excessively kept going and running up a huge bill. Do you know someone who spent $40,000, $50,000, or even over $100,000 in legal fees?

I have seen the other side who was represented by counsel, refuse a settlement offer that followed the law--it was the legal answer. Look, it's a lawyer's job to know the legal answer.  Why would someone deny a settlement with the legal answer?  After that, the outcome at trial actually be worse for the other side, and the parties sadly wasted thousands in unnecessary trial fees.

I have seen people run out of money and lose their lawyer.  What do you do then?  They have to figure out how to DIY their own case; and in one such trial that I attended as an observer because it was a friend, she did a pretty good job with some coaching from me.

AS A FORMER SOFTWARE ENGINEER...

I spent 15 years in software for Fortune 500 companies and NASA

But, I confess that at a certain point in my career, I couldn't deny feeling like I had a greater destiny in helping people.

Prior to law school, I completed 2 Master's Degrees, including creating an artificial intelligence software program for my thesis.  Then at Stetson Law school, I graduated at the top of my class and walked across the stage at 9-months pregnant.

Today, I combine the skills of both careers, coupled with life experience, to bring you this opportunity aimed at saving you money with clear, step-by-step divorce guidance for peace of mind.

AS FOUNDER OF DIY DIVORCE™...

DIY DIVORCE came to me as a natural conclusion to a set of frustrations with the way things are setup to cost more and without alternative options.

While I have been in courtroom litigation and made my share of large fees, I fundamentally have never been comfortable with what lawyers charge.

Too many people are forced to borrow from family, draw from savings, or go into debt just to hire a lawyer—and this bothered me at my core.

I felt that access to justice was shrinking along with the shrinking middle class.

So Why Did I Leave Litigation Just to CHARGE LESS?

Years ago, I started charging flat fees for attorney services and my clients loved it! It gave them comfort in knowing how much things would cost before signing up.

But there was still ONE HUGE PROBLEM...

I could only help but so many people. My flat fee structure for attorney services was not scalable enough to reach all of the people in need. I also realized even with the popular flat fee structure, the prices were still too high for a lot of people to afford.

My research uncovered that most people file for divorce without an attorney, but still more lawyers refuse to help those people unless they are willing to pay high prices.  If you stop and think about it... why should they?  If a family law firm can pull in $1M+ in fees, why should they care about spending time on people who can't afford their services when there are an abundance of people who can?  And if you apply the Law of Supply and Demand or Inflation, then you get increasing prices every single year.

So I asked myself... where are all of these de facto self-represented people getting their help from? I realized it's unlicensed paralegals, armchair lawyers, copy and paste document hackers who don't know the law, and unlicensed people who are not lawyers and with zero regulation or accountability.
